LEATHER WALLS
Leather Walls
Leather wall panelling instantly evokes the impression of a smoky men's club or library, however in recent times this image has been challenged. The hard wearing quality of leather makes it an ideal wall covering material with warm, sensuous qualities of a natural material.
With modern tanning techniques and methods it is found with an array of surface embellishments and interior applications. Abstract applique surface effects are commonly used; embossing, de-bossing, embossing, laser-etching and embroidery on vast scales has brought the material into the 21st Century.
Leather walls are simple to maintain, they can thermally and acoustically insulate especially when incorporated with padding.
Colours are often applied to our thicker leather using vegetable dyes however there is a vast spectrum of colours available in softer upholstery leathers and with leather itself being environmental sustainable material tanned to strict environmental parameters it also ticks the Eco-friendly box. Harcourt have many years' experience of designing, fitting leather walls to both domestic and commercial applications.
Our leather panelling is available in either tiled formats or as modular systems.
Tiled leather walls use our specially selected thick hides with pronounced linear grains, which when trimmed to tiles, provide that luxurious look and feel. Tiled shapes are made to order from squares to interlocking patterns. Our maximum tile size is 800 x 1000 mm. We manufacture each wall in our workshops and install to each customer's specific requirements.
Once fitted, we treat each wall with natural beeswax to develop its own individual deep lustre, give it longevity and maintain surface qualities.
Modular systems are panels measured to fit a specific area; the hide patterns are mounted onto boards; fixed to the walls via batons or clips. The panels can be as large as 1500 x 1800 mm and incorporated with padding commonly from 3mm thick upwards with stitching.
Each piece of leather will gain its own unique patina as it is used, cleaned and embellished with wax. The deep lustre that is created overtime, only serves to increase the attraction of this exquisite covering.
